Abstract

Science is a concept of learning about phenomena in nature and is closely related to human life. In essence, science is an application, product and process. Understanding of science requires good accuracy and thoroughness because there are findings both qualitative and quantitative in it. The problem that often occurs in science for junior high school is that students find it difficult to understand about ecosystem so that their learning achievement did not show an increase of learning quality. In this study, the writer made a learning work in the form of teaching aids named TOP RANKS Innovative Teaching Aid (Smart Organism Mask from Old Newspapers). This teaching aid is applied in the seventh grade junior high school science learning on the concept of ecosystem to increase the dimension of metacognitive knowledge. The purpose of this innovative learning work is to apply innovative Top Ranks teaching aids in junior high school science of ecosystem concepts to increase the dimensions of metacognitive knowledge of seventh grade students. The application, creation, and writing of this innovative learning work took place from March 26th, 2019 to April 29th, 2019. This innovative learning research work uses the Contextual Teaching and Learning approach, the Inquiry Learning model, as well as discussion and simulation methods. The result obtained from the application of this innovative learning work is that the Top Ranks innovative props can improve the dimensions of metacognitive knowledge of seventh grade students on the concept of ecosystem in junior high school science learning. This is evidenced by the learning achievement or postest of students reaching 89.4 (KKM = 70) with 100% completeness.
